About

J.L. Comes (he/they) is a queer Adult/YA Speculative & Fantasy writer and poet originally from the small southern town of Portsmouth, VA.

With a BA in Music from Coastal Carolina University and a resume full of theatre productions, they allow their vast life experiences and issues to influence all forms of their writing; from anxiety and body dysmorphia to surviving cancer and drug-induced depression, their stories contain multitudes lightened with sass and sharp wit and always include undertones of religious trauma and survival of emotional/verbal abuse.

Now residing in Los Angeles, CA as a SAG-AFTRA actor, he focuses on perfecting his gluten-free bakes, watches reruns of Charmed from the elliptical at his local gym, and stares off into space to see his stories unfold in his head instead of actually writing them down. His words can currently be found in Handbasket Zine and Bookish Brews blog (@handbasketzine & @amandabrews on Instagram, respectively).
